Breakfast in the South

I know y’all are from all over this great planet of ours, but I’m just curious… what are some of your favorite breakfast foods? What are some of the typical breakfast dishes where you’re from?

Breakfast foods in the south typically consist of (but aren’t limited to):

  • biscuits with sausage gravy
  • eggs – usually with cheese
  • hashbrowns or fried potatoes
  • ham, bacon, and/or sausage
  • grits
  • pancakes
  • french toast

and some or all of this is usually cooked up in a cast iron skillet with at least 12 spoons of butter!

What’s breakfast like in your house?

  1. Hi, I’m new here. Hope it’s ok to comment. Our breakfasts are pretty similar to yours- even down to the cast iron skillet. My cast iron is the skillet I use to cook everything, actually. Your picture made me crave hash browns! Yum!! Do you do breakfast for supper, too? We do that once in a while. 🙂

      1. Oh my gosh, I LOVED pancakes when I was pregnant. I ate them for every meal! Ha. Now I’m gluten free and I haven’t had pancakes in over 2 years. I miss them! Mmm hash browns with cheese sounds delicious!

      1. Pretty much the same way you do. I am a good old southern boy, born in Baton Rouge and lived in MS 30+ years. As I am in my 60’s now, I don’t make quite as much but I used to love a big southern breakfast to get my day going, much like this one. Even got up early enough to make it before work. I eat a little less now and sleep in a little longer. I love retirement. Love your blog!
